Hi there! Welcome! If you are here, your experience in Pittsburgh is going to elevate to a whole new level!
We are the International Women's Association of Pittsburgh (IWAP). We are a group, a family, a community, of International and American women coming together from many different countries, cultures and backgrounds. Our mission is to offer friendship, support and assistance to international women, who find Pittsburgh as their new temporary or long-term home. We meet every Thursday of the month from September to May. These meetings are a chance to socialize, bond, learn about other cultures from our diverse membership, and form lasting friendships over coffee/tea, refreshments, conversation, and a variety of activities.
Our History
We are celebrating 30 years in Pittsburgh!
We were founded in 1967, by a group of women with vision and a drive to build a community offering a hand of friendship and support to women who were new to the city, to make them feel at home away from home.
On September 9, 1993, the group officially became known as the International Women's Association of Pittsburgh. Since then, women from all parts of the world have come together to form lasting friendships. Our group is a great place to make new friends and to find old ones.
County Recognition
Allegheny County Council declared Thursday, March 8th, 2018 as International Woman's Day in Allegheny County and commended the efforts of the organization. The formal proclamation was received at the County Council Meeting on March 6th, 2018 (video below). Fifteen members were in attendance, but the entire organization is honored and proud to be recognized for its important work; and each member’s individual contribution to making the International Women’s Association of Pittsburgh (IWAP) a wonderful organization to belong to.
